La aplicación del método científico en la práctica asistencial es conocido como Proceso de Cuidado Enfermero (PCE), método que permite a las enfermeras a través de su utilización el otorgamiento de cuidados de una forma racional, lógica y sistemática.  El presente caso, es utilizado como herramienta pedagógica en la tercera unidad "Proceso de Cuidado Enfermero en las alteraciones del crecimiento y desarrollo infantil" en el programa de Licenciatura en Enfermería de la UASLP, eligiéndose como herramienta didáctica dada su complejidad y la manera en que posibilita la integración de contenidos a revisar durante la misma. Se trata de un caso clínico que aborda el cuidado enfermero del niño con diarrea a partir de una valoración enmarcada en los Patrones Funcionales de Salud (PFS).

Las enfermedades diarreicas están ubicadas dentro de las primeras causas de muerte y ocupan el primer lugar en los menores de 5 años de edad tanto en México como en la mayoría de los países en vías de desarrollo, siendo en los países desarrollados una de las causas más comunes de muerte prevenible. Dado a que varios conceptos erróneos prevalecen en el manejo que da Enfermería al niño con dicho trastorno se hace necesario habilitar al estudiante en el abordaje de dicha problemática desde el enfoque del PCE, buscando a través de él propiciar el razonamiento lógico y el juicio crítico en torno al cuidado enfermero.

The application of the scientific method in the welfare practice is known as Nursing Process, method that allows to the nurses across his use the granting of taken care of a rational, logical form and systematical. The present case, it is used as pedagogic tool in the third unit "Nursing Process in the alterations of the growth and infantile development" in the program of Licentiate in Infirmary of the UASLP, there being chosen as didactic given tool due to its complexity and the way in which it makes possible the integration of contents to check during the process itself. It is a matter of a clinical case about the nursing care of the child with diarrhea from an evaluation framed in the Functional Patterns of Health (PFS). Diarrhea related diseases are located inside the first causes of death and occupy the first place in the persons younger than 5 years of age both in Mexico and in the majority of the developing countries, being in the developed countries one of the most common causes of "avoidable death". Given to the several erroneous concepts that prevail in the handling that gives nursery to the child with the above mentioned disorder it becomes necessary to enable the student in the approach of the above mentioned problems from the approach of the CPS, looking across him to propitiate the logical reasoning and the critical judgment concerning the nursing care process.
